How to Open Champagne in 5 Easy Steps

How to open Champagne

Use the steps below to open a bottle of Champagne or any Sparkling Wine.

Step 1: Chill bottle

Either pop your bottle into a refrigerator a few hours before you plan to open the it & then into the freeze for 15 minutes, OR place into an ice bucket until the bottle is significantly chilled.

Step 2: Loosen Cage

Rotate the tab 6 half turns. Loosen it just enough to fit over the lip of the bottle but don’t take it off. Make sure to keep your thumb over the cork and cage, as it is now only thing keeping it secure.

Step 3: Rotate the Base

Hold the bottle by the base & rotate it slowly back and forth, while holding the cork/cage firmly. This is much safer than rotating the cork.

Keep Your Thumb on it

Step 4: Hold onto Cork

While twisting the bottle, keep applying pressure to hold the cork in place. The cork will start to push out with the bottle under pressure. You should try to do this process slowly, so that the cork will pop out with just a little puff of gas release. (The loud movie style 'pop' is not what we are trying to do.) Continue holding the bottle at a 45° angle for 2 seconds after the cork comes out to help reduce the chance of overflow.

Step 5: Pour

While holdling the bottle with a serving cloth, pour the wine into a glass keeping an even stream flowing.

Tip: Remember that your serve sparkling wine bottles very chilled and will condensate as they are left out, so please remember to wipe the bottle off before pouring. Cheers!
